Posted by on June 25, 2012

Keep Up the Momentum for Horses! Crucial Horse Slaughter Vote Tuesday, June 26!

Agriculture Appropriations for 2013
ASPCA Position:
Oppose efforts to allow horse slaughter in the U.S.
Action Needed:

This coming Tuesday, June 26, the U.S. House of Representatives will consider the Agriculture Appropriations bill for 2013.
Please take a moment to urge your representative to oppose any amendment that would allow horse slaughter in the U.S.
On June 19, the House Appropriations Committee approved Rep. Jim Moran’s amendment to prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars for horse slaughter inspections in fiscal year 2013!
We must keep up the fight for horses! The next step is for the entire U.S. House of Representatives to vote on the Agriculture Appropriations bill. This vote will happen on Tuesday (June 26), so we need all animal advocates to contact their representatives TODAY and urge them to oppose any amendment that would permit the use of taxpayer dollars to support horse slaughter in the U.S.
In 2005, Congress put in place a prohibition on the use of taxpayer dollars for horse slaughter inspections. This ban effectively ended the slaughter of horses for human consumption in the U.S. Every year since 2005, this prohibition was included in the annual Agriculture Appropriations bill—until last year. Our precious tax dollars are now at risk of supporting the return of this barbaric practice!
Using taxpayer dollars to support the horse slaughter industry is irresponsible and wasteful. Oppose any attempts to allow horse slaughter in the U.S.!
The pro-slaughter industry is hard at work. They are looking for locations around the country to set up shop, and they are lobbying intensely against our efforts to defund horse slaughter. We can’t let up now! Help us ensure that Capitol Hill continues hearing the message to protect horses!
