Take 5 Minutes for the Future of Cloud’s Herd!

Help Cloud’s Herd Today!
Take 5 minutes for the famous Pryor Mountain herd
Comments due this Friday!

About once every 20-30 years, BLM re-evaluates its management practices for a certain area. Well, the time has arrived for that evaluation in the Pryors. Now is our chance to make our voices heard for the future management of the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range.
The time for commenting on BLM’s draft Resource Management Plan (RMP) is upon us. Included in the Billings/Pompey’s Pillar RMP is the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range (PMWHR). Some of the proposed actions we are completely on board with (which are included in BLM’s preferred Alternative D), while others leave something to be desired. Please take five minutes and submit your comments for the Pryor horses!
Comments are due Friday, June 28th!

Please keep BLM’s preferred alternative regarding public feeding, as it should not be allowed. It endangers the health and safety of the horses, as well as can endanger members of the public trying to feed them.

Please remove any exclosures not in use. They are not being used for data collection and are simply taking up space. The large ones on Sykes Ridge area a potential to be a safety hazard to small foals, which we have seen in years past with other exclosures.

Please do not allow target shooting on the mountain top area from Memorial Day through Labor Day, but add that target shooting should be prohibited year round in the entire PMWHR. It can cause undue stress to the wild horses and other wildlife, increase the risk for an accidental horse shooting, and is an endangerment to the other visitors on the mountain.

Please implement a speed limit of 15 mph on the mountaintop of the horse range with aesthetically appropriate signage throughout the horse range.
I applaud the inclusion of the administrative pastures back into the PMWHR.
and to work with the National Park Service to reintroduce the Sorenson Extension into the horse range.
Please work with the Forest Service to include the mountaintop area to include the open meadows and Tony Island Spring.

Please ensure rare color and genetic lines are not lopped off when any management decisions necessitate a removal.

I do not support the preferred alternative’s proposal of closing part of Burnt Timber and Sykes Ridge Roads from April 15-June 15. Instead, in order to protect habitat and the horses, please seek to add aesthetically appropriate signage explaining penalties for off road use. Volunteers can help mitigate downed timber and block the public from going off road through natural blocks.
