Coalition Calls for Humane Conditions at BLM Holding Facilities
The American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign, and coalition partners the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) have urged the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to provide humane treatment at holding facility during the sweltering summer months. Although the BLM requires adopters of wild horses and burros to provide the animals with shelter from the elements, the agency does not adhere to its own standards in its short-term holding corrals. As a result, thousands of wild horses and burros have had to endure punishing temperatures in BLM holding pens throughout the West, with no escape from the sun and heat.
