Newsletter 2015
Happy New Year!  Looking forward to a great 2015 for all. AND…….lots of plans and activities for Ever After Mustang Rescue.

But first, reflections from 2014

Thanks to all our wonderful and dedicated volunteers we had a very successful year. The annual fund raisers, Open House, Mustangs in Motion, the Pow Wow, and the Horse Show all had grown from the previous year. Wendy and Mike Harris presented Bobbi Jo’s wedding, an interactive theater presentation, which was hilarious and raised $3000.

Then, there were also some sadness. We lost three of our aged horses, Owhyee Lady, Beau and our ambassador Reno.

Reno from our 2013 Christmas card

The annual Christmas Service on December 21st was well attended, with more than 100 people braving the cold in attendance. After a brief reading from the scripture we gathered in the ring to socialize over hot cocoa, coffee and pastries donated by Reilly’s Bakery as well as homemade goodies provided by our generous volunteers. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of a $15,000 check to founder/director, Mona Jerome, from a foundation wishing to remain unnamed. It is their desire that this amount be matched and used for the new barn campaign. So we are asking all of our generous donors to put the word out to all of their friends, family, and coworkers – every dollar will count.

Looking Forward to 2015:

Second Annual Colossal Mustang Challenge

January 17th was the first of three clinics to be held at the Rescue. Three trainers worked with an assigned horse under the tutelage of Chris Lombard, well-known local trainer and author.  Our competitors: Natasha DeLuca of Arundel working with Chipeta, Sayre English of Cape Elizabeth working with Lucky, Stacey Scotia of Buckfield working with Captain. Auditors are also welcome at $20 per person.

January 24th is our annual Skating Party at Westbrook Skating Rink on Pool Road in Biddeford from 6-9 PM @ $5 per person. The Biddeford High School Hockey Team will be hosting a clinic offering pointers to all interested skaters and playing a pickup game afterwards.

February 7th is our annual Benefit Dance & Social at the Biddeford Eagles on Birch Street,  with DJ Steve Clancy from 8 to midnight. Tickets are $10 per person. Cash bar. Tickets can be purchased by calling Lori at 590-8308 or Rose at 523-0088. Call ahead if you would like to reserve your ticket to be picked up at the door. If you don’t dance, no problem! It’s a great chance to see everyone and socialize. Just be ready to have fun!

February 14th is part two of the Colossal Mustang Challenge, 10 AM to 3 PM at the Rescue. Auditors:  $20 per person.

March 14th is the final clinic of the Colossal Mustang Challenge, 10 AM to 3 PM at the Rescue. Auditors: $20 per person. We look forward to seeing the amazing results of these trainers’ hard work.

The Coming Months – At a Glance

Sunday, July 5th is our annual Open House, from 1-4 PM, with tours & demonstrations.

Sunday, August  9th is Mustangs in Motion from 1-4 PM. Join us the see America’s Wild Horse in action.

August 14th, 15th & 16th brings us the fourth annual Native American Intertribal Pow Wow on our fields at 463 West Street.

The Fundraising and Activities Committee is busy, as we speak, filling in additional events for 2015 and working on the 2016 calendar. If you have ideas or would like to serve on this committee please contact Mona Jerome at 284-7721 or mustangs1@maine.rr.com We appreciate your time and talent and look forward to hearing what you come up with! The committee meets on a monthly basis.

We are also looking for persons with experience in capital campaigns to guide our efforts to get our barn built in 2015.

With the recent week of zero and subzero weather it became apparent that we need insulated water buckets. If anyone would like, or is able, to raise funds for one or more of these buckets it would benefit the volunteers and the horses in need of water.
