Tell BLM to STOP Dangerous and Cruel Experiments on Our Wild Horses
BLM announced plan today to work with Oregon State University experimenting on 225 wild mares at Hines, Oregon BLM Short Term Holding Facility in February:

This cruel, inhumane torture of wild horses is unacceptable. It does not conform to minimally intrusive management on the range that the Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971 was to ensure.

Three methods of sterilizing wild mares will be tested on the range: Ovariectomy via colpotomy, tubal ligation and hyteroscopically-guided laser ablation. Ovariectomy via colpotomy, not commonly done with domestic mares, needs sterile environment and mares not pregnant or wild. Nothing sterile about a holding facility. Wild mares are terrified, confined in a chute, have incision made in vagina, then veterinarian’s arm reachs in and rips out ovaries — can die from sedation, hearts stop from terror, infection and complications and abort the foal.
I question the morals and ethics of veterinarians at Oregon State University performing these procedures on pregnant wild mares.
Please write to the BLM, Congress and your Senator to stop this.
